Word on the street is hip hop neophyte Jay Electronica’s highly anticipated debut release is finally complete, but label head S. Carter refuses to schedule a release date for lack of viable radio singles. It has even been said Hov has stated that Electronica’s joint is the best he’s heard all year…Um, okay…really, dude?
We all know I hate Hov, but I gotta side with him on this one. As dope as the product may be, it’ll go nowhere with no radio push. Singles make all the difference in this fucked up state of rap. If it were early to mid ’90s, the fresh factor of the product itself would prevail. Illmatic is perhaps the best LP of all time. If it were released today it wouldn’t have any viable radio singles. Ditto for Redman’s classic Dare Iz A Darkside. But it ain’t ’94 anymore. Shit, it ain’t ’04 anymore for that matter.
Just for shits and giggles, I’m home on a rare Monday morning watching Maury…you ignorant, cotton picking, niggers. Yes, niggers. I’m done.

I’m back from three tours in West Hell. And I’m better than ever. Time is money, so let’s dive directly into the shit. Oh…you’ll get the shit.

Off the jump ball, I really hate the fact that people in and outside the music biz keep correlating Chris Brown’s Grammy success to beating Rihanna’s sexy ass up. I’ll keep my opinion on said ass whupping to myself. But when critics argue he didn’t deserve the award because of “the incident,” I’m wondering if crack usage is a factor. One has nothing to do with the other. The young man is talented as fuck, and F.A.M.E. was/is the shiznit. He earned his statue. Period. You can save the ethics questions for the next bleeding heart. Also, I’ve heard a few argue that Breezy shouldn’t have even been nominated, considering the fact soulful artists like Ledisi and El Debarge were also nominees. I do agree that the latter two artists appeal more to the grown and sexy, and their content is probably more sophisticated. But Breezy’s shit is bangin’ from front to back. And his records on the album charted highly. That’s Grammy criteria, idiots. He was able to take it from blatant radio banger (“She Ain’t You”) to flat out dope (“Deuces”) to show stopper (“No Bullshit”), all with ease. Congrats Breezy. You earned it.

But back up in Harlem…
Rumors have been swirling that uptown vigilante Max B has been denied appeal for his murder conviction. This would mean he’d be behind prison walls until 2042. This news was a definite blow to the wave of loyal fans who have adopted Maxy as the Harlem people’s champ. It’s something about the boy Charlie Wingate. He definitely brought his own brand to the table. Well, it seems that talk of a denial are premature, as allhiphop.com recently reported there will be no decision until April. Good shit…for now. I’m wondering is it me, or has the boy French Montana forgotten about the homie? I hope I’m wrong. It’s just that I see the boy blowing up and can’t help remember that when Wavy Crockett was murdering the mix tape circuit and French was along for the ride, that nigga had no wave at all. Now niggas are acting like he’s the man to be. Maybe he is. I personally can’t see it. The lyrical content just isn’t doing it for me. I’m not hating on the man. He’s doing it big. I respect that. But basura is basura. Fuck it. I said it. These dukey rappers need to be called out. Monday don’t scare.
